We recently had a chat with one of our former Big Data students Subhrajyoti Mandal and we were just amazed to see his growth and know about his journey from doing a Ph.D. to joining Big Data course in Data Brio Academy and shining high after completing the training. The entire conversation and his side of the story are really inspiring. Hope you would enjoy reading it.
Hello Subhrajyoti! Where are you working now and in what role?
I am working as a Senior Consultant (Big Data) at Datamatics Global Services in Bangalore, India. Before this, I worked as a Big Data Engineer with The DSI, Usha Martin Group.
What have you worked on in the recent past?
Right now I am involved in a big data-based product. Earlier I have maintained Cloudera big data cluster. I also worked on sentiment analysis in banking for customers in the US, UK, Canada using SPARK (PySpark) on the HDFS platform. We used machine learning algorithms like Naïve Bayes, SVM, LDA for topic modeling, etc. I was involved in data engineering work on rejection prediction for an FMCG product.
How did you get interested in Big Data?
During my Ph.D. days, I was introduced to a big data project in the domain of healthcare where we had to work with a huge volume of data. I was curious enough to learn that volume is just one aspect of big data and there was much more to it. To explore and learn further, I enrolled for big data training in Data Brio Academy (DBA)that offered me the chance to learn Big Data Hadoop In Kolkata.
How did you select Data Brio Academy (DBA)?
When I was looking for good Big Data courses in Kolkata in early 2014, there was no training institute offering big data training programs in Eastern India other than DBA! I interacted with the faculty who was very knowledgeable and hands-on with the technology. It gave me the confidence that this is the place where I can learn this new technology. They also gave me an internship and placement support.
How was your experience with Data Brio Academy?
The faculty and the learning environment were very good as it was a completely hands-on program. I learned a lot about the latest technology of big data, the data paradigm of Hadoop, its ecosystem, etc. I also got an opportunity to work on a big data project in retail during my training there. Later I was placed with Business Brio (an award-winning big data analytics training institute with Company) where I could enrich my learning while working on big data analytics projects.
What kind of challenges do you face while working in big data?
As I work on Spark which is still relatively new in the industry, support resource is inadequate. So we need to do a lot of research and explore. In the process, we learn a lot.
Can you share some of your achievements in the last couple of years?
While working on a project, we were facing problems in data engineering using Spark. So I had to interact with Databricks, understand the solution, and then implemented it. Not only did I learn a lot, I also received recognition from the client as well as the organization! I also published a paper on Sentiment analysis using big data in an international journal.
That’s wonderful! What would you like to share with big data aspirants and enthusiasts?
There is no shortcut to hard work! If you love technology, stay with it and be ready to explore and do a lot of research, especially with cutting-edge technologies like Big Data which is still evolving. And, in your learning journey, you need a good training institute to get the right guidance not just to learn the technology but also the right advice for your professional career. So choose carefully based on your objectives and stay the course. I got the right guidance from Data Brio Academy for my career. DBA not only helped me in learning the technology but was instrumental in my transition from research to the corporate world.
Thanks for sharing your time with us, Subhrajyoti! It is really gratifying to see that you have made the most out of Data Brio Academy’s Big Data course. We wish you the best for your career ahead!
