Hello, Shalini! Greetings from Data Brio Academy! We are here to chat with you about your career in analytics and data science. How are you?

I am doing great. Thanks!

Where are you working now and in what role?

I am working as a Big Data Analyst with HSBC in Commercial Banking division. I am involved in big data analytics using various data sources and databases.

What is your educational background?

I did Masters in Applied Economics from Presidency University and had studied Economics in Graduation too.

How did you decide on Analytics as a career choice?

As my background was in Applied Economics, I was interested in analytics as a career from the beginning.

What made you join Data Brio Academy (DBA), the big data training institute in Kolkata?

I was working earlier as Associate consultant in Wipro Technologies in Big Data Analytics division. I worked there in retail marketing analytics to generate insights on campaign performance. I used to work primarily in SQL and VBA. I wanted to increase my knowledge in predictive modeling techniques and also wanted to learn SAS, R etc. I looked up the internet for training institutes and learned about Data Brio Academy and found the course structure quite detailed. They were also certified by CEIAT, West Bengal and had a strong credibility in data science training. So I joined there.

Which course did you do in DBA?

In DBA, I joined the Business analyst certification course with SAS, R, SPSS tools. I also learned Tableau. I found the course structure in-depth – the modeling techniques were not only covered in depth but also with lot of hands-on exercises and data.

How was your experience with DBA?

I had attended few classes in SAS in another institute earlier but found that it was taught in greater detail at DBA. I was happy with the complete attention given to each and every student while working hands-on at Data Brio Academy. As a working professional, the advanced notification on class schedule, topics as well as repeat classes (whenever I missed a topic or a class) were really helpful. The discussions during class and the data projects gave me hands-on exposure and also helped me prepare for my job interviews.

Can you share with us your moments of happiness during your work tenure?

I worked on campaign analytics – effect of promotions, performance, and comparison of promotions in retail earlier. Now I am working on analytics and application in the financial sector.

Shalini, would you like to share any advice and suggestion with those who aspire to get into the field of data science and analytics?

I think the domain is quite big. If one is interested in getting into modeling related work, it is better to learn it with a reputed institute like Data Brio Academy and get the right exposure through projects. That makes you more confident of your learning and ready for an analytics career.

Thanks, Shalini, for spending your time with us! We wish you a very happy and prosperous Diwali in advance and a very successful career ahead!
