Hello, Gurdeep, Greetings from Data Brio Academy! We are here to chat with you about your career in analytics and data science. Where are you working now and in what role?

Hello! I am working as an Analyst – Trainee with Business Brio.

What is your educational background?

I completed BSc. and Masters in Economics (with Stat. and Math) from Burdwan University.

How did you decide on analytics as a career choice?

During my masters program on economics, statistics was one of the subjects. I felt that in order to know economics better, I needed to know statistics better and came across analytics while I was doing some research. And I wanted to get into analytics since then.

What made you join Data Brio Academy (DBA)?

When I looked around training institutes to join an analytics course, I found the counselling at Data Brio Academy was genuine. They understood my educational background, my strengths, and weaknesses. The honesty that reflected in their counselling motivated me in joining DBA.

Which course did you do at DBA?

In DBA, I joined the complete Business analytics course with SAS, R, MS Excel and VBA, SPSS and Tableau. There was a lot of focus on concept building and predictive modelling techniques and everything was taught with practical business scenarios in mind.

Gurdeep, how did you get this job?

While doing the analytics course in the third month, I got an opportunity for the interview for an internship at Business Brio. I was selected and during my internship, I learned a lot about business and how analytics and number crunching is helping to know about customer preferences, brand associations, satisfaction etc. I am now working as Analyst here.

What kind of work are you doing as an Analyst?

I am working on a project in telecom sector for the Middle East market. The project is very interesting in terms of the new performance indicators and measures that I have learnt like NPS, RSI, eQ, Share of wallet etc., the process of data preparation, analysis and then presenting it to the client. Each day at Business Brio is a new learning!

Can you share with us your moments of happiness during your work tenure?

I really felt happy when the project report for wave 1 was presented and I realised that my contribution added value to such an important project – It’s not only an important project for the company but also for the client as it is being implemented across multiple geographies. We are trying out new analysis on customer data and when the client appreciates our effort it also gives me a lot of satisfaction.

What kind of challenges have you faced while working in the analytics field?

The data that we are dealing with is more complex than what I had handled during the training course. So it’s a continuous learning process – how to handle data. The data cleaning process is so very important! I am also learning to work more efficiently in MS Excel and R.

What do you think are important for an aspirant to get into the field of data science and analytics?

I think it’s very important to know the concepts very well. One should also have thinking capability in order to work with data and you have to like working with data. You should also know a couple of analytics tools very well. I got a lot of guidance and encouragement during the training program at Data Brio Academy on tools and techniques which prepared me for this career in analytics.

All we can say at the end of the interview is Thanks, for your time, Gurdeep! We are very happy to see that you have made the most out of the Business Analyst Certification Course of Data Brio Academy. We wish you the very best in your career ahead! Keep shining!
